An international symposium on al-Farabi's legacy in Almaty gathered over 150 participants. At the forum's opening on November 6, Vice President Yerlan Karin announced that such meetings would become regular and alternate with symposiums on Yassawi's legacy. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the Akorda press service, the forum "Philosophy. Ethics. Future" is taking place at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. It is attended by Kazakh and foreign scholars, researchers, experts, and representatives of international organizations.

The initiative to make scientific meetings permanent was put forward by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Symposiums on the legacy of Abu Nasr al-Farabi will be held in Almaty, and those on the works of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi — in Turkestan.

"Now these events will be held alternately once every two years. Thus, the study of our strategic and spiritual heritage is reaching a systemic and institutional level. In other words, Kazakhstan has begun consistent and comprehensive study and promotion of its historical and spiritual heritage, which indicates qualitative changes in the field of education," Karin said.

At the forum's opening, Karin read out Tokayev's address. The President called for introducing young people to the ideas of outstanding thinkers and studying their works in the context of modern science. According to him, al-Farabi's views are consonant with the ideas of "Taza Qazaqstan" and "Adal Azamat".

"His teaching about the prudent man and virtuous society will never lose its relevance," Tokayev noted.

Yerlan Karin emphasized that al-Farabi's ideas are especially relevant in the era of globalization and technological progress. According to him, the works of al-Farabi, Yassawi, and Abai are important both for science and for strengthening the moral foundations of society. Forum participants discussed what role al-Farabi's teaching can play in dialogue between cultures.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that in 2027 Turkestan will become the cultural capital of the Islamic world. According to Tokayev, one of the main events of the program will be the international forum named after Khoja Ahmed Yassawi.

On the eve, November 5, Tokayev awarded King Abdullah II of Jordan the Al-Farabi Order. The award named after the thinker was established in Kazakhstan in April 2026.
