On August 19, unfavorable meteorological conditions (NMU) are expected in Almaty and four other cities of Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kazhydromet.

According to weather forecasters, NMU are predicted in Almaty, and at night — in Atyrau, Aktobe, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Kokshetau.

As experts explained, unfavorable weather conditions arise from a combination of calm, weak wind, fog and temperature inversion. As a result, pollutants can accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere, leading to deterioration of air quality.

Forecasters warn that during such periods the risk of negative health effects increases, especially for people with chronic diseases.

The level of air pollution is influenced by wind speed, precipitation, humidity and air temperature.

Residents are advised to reduce time spent outdoors, especially near roads and other sources of pollution. Children and pregnant women are advised to avoid long walks.

People with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as allergy sufferers, are advised to carry necessary medications. Experts recommend limiting outdoor physical activity and, if possible, moving workouts indoors.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that on August 19, Kazakhstan expects heat up to +40 °C and heavy rains. Forecasters warn of thunderstorms, hail and squally wind in most regions of the country.
