On September 4, unfavorable meteorological conditions (UMC) are expected in Almaty and five other cities of Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to weather forecasters, UMC are predicted in Aktobe and Almaty, and at night - in Atyrau, Kostanay, Oskemen and Astana.
What are UMC?
As experts explain, unfavorable meteorological conditions occur when calm weather, weak wind, fog and temperature inversion combine. As a result, pollutants can accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere, leading to deterioration of air quality.
Health impact
During such periods, the risk of negative effects of polluted air on health increases. People with chronic diseases are advised to be especially careful.
The level of air pollution is influenced by wind speed, precipitation, humidity and air temperature.
Recommendations for residents
Residents of cities where UMC are forecast are advised to reduce time spent outdoors, especially near highways and other sources of pollution. Children and pregnant women are advised to avoid long walks.
People with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as allergy sufferers, are recommended to carry necessary medications with them. Experts advise limiting intense physical activity outdoors and, if possible, moving exercise indoors.
Additional information
According to Kazhydromet, the deterioration of air quality during UMC may be temporary, but it is important for residents to strictly follow precautionary measures. The situation can be aggravated by heavy traffic and industrial emissions.
According to experts, such weather conditions usually last for several days, so residents are advised to monitor weather forecasts and take necessary measures.
