On June 20, Almaty and Astana are expected to face deteriorating air quality due to adverse meteorological conditions (AMC). This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to weather forecasters, AMC are predicted in Almaty throughout the day, and in the capital at night. Specialists explained that adverse meteorological conditions arise from a combination of calm weather, light wind, fog, and temperature inversion. Under such conditions, pollutants accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere, leading to poor air quality.
The level of pollution is also affected by wind speed, precipitation, humidity, and air temperature. During AMC, residents are advised to reduce time spent outdoors, especially near roads and other pollution sources. Children and pregnant women are recommended to avoid long walks.
People with respiratory diseases, cardiovascular system disorders, and allergies are advised to carry necessary medications. Specialists recommend limiting outdoor physical activity and, if possible, moving workouts indoors.
Kazhydromet specialists regularly update data from air quality monitoring stations during AMC. Residents are encouraged to refer to official information sources and monitor weather forecasts. AMC can last for several days, so it is important to follow precautionary measures.
Almaty and Astana are the largest cities in Kazakhstan, where air pollution is a pressing issue. Major pollution sources include vehicle emissions, industrial enterprises, and thermal power plants. During AMC, emissions from these sources accumulate, significantly worsening air quality.
Health experts recommend closing windows, using indoor air purifiers, and wearing masks during AMC. People with chronic diseases should consult their doctors and take medications on time.
Kazhydromet will update AMC warnings as weather conditions change. Residents are advised to take precautions and rely only on official information.
