By order of the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Almaty Hippodrome has been returned to the city's municipal ownership, the city administration reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The hippodrome will remain a single complex preserving its historical and sports purpose. No changes to the functional zoning of the territory or the designated purpose of the land plot are planned.
Next stage: development concept
The administration's statement reads: "The next stage is to develop a concept for the hippodrome's development. It is planned to restore its sports function, modernize infrastructure, and renovate stands, stables, race tracks, and utility networks."
Historical site
Founded in 1930, the Almaty Hippodrome is considered one of the oldest equestrian sports facilities in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Its area is 39.1 hectares.
Modernization plan
Since the complex is significantly dilapidated, restoration work will be carried out in stages. After modernization, the hippodrome will be used for its intended purpose, hosting city and national competitions.
