A crocodile at Almaty Zoo has turned 40. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
A Cuban crocodile named Fidel was born in 1986. In 2001, he was brought to Almaty from Riga Zoo. Currently, his length reaches about 4 meters.
To mark the anniversary, specialists prepared a special festive "cake" from his favorite treat – beef.
"Fidel is fed once a week. This is because the crocodile's digestion process takes a long time. Usually, he is fed every Tuesday from 14:00 to 15:00. At this time, visitors can watch him eat," said zoo staff.
Fidel's health is good. Veterinarians constantly monitor him.
It is worth noting that Cuban crocodiles can live for several decades.
