In Almaty, doctors successfully removed a giant uterine myoma weighing more than 5 kg. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
A 40-year-old pregnant woman at 35 weeks of gestation was urgently admitted to Almaty City Perinatal Center No. 2 with premature rupture of membranes. During examination, doctors detected a circulatory disorder threatening the life of the fetus.
Therefore, a decision was made to perform an emergency cesarean section. During the operation, specialists discovered a giant myoma measuring 20×25 centimeters. The situation was complicated by a pronounced adhesive process: the intestine was tightly adhered to the uterus, the ministry said.
Given the complexity of the clinical case, the director of the City Perinatal Center No. 2, Svetlana Rakhimova, promptly organized the operation and involved oncogynecologist Raikhan Bolatbekova from the Almaty Oncology Center in the surgical intervention.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the doctors, it was possible not only to safely deliver the baby but also to remove the giant tumor weighing 5.1 kg while preserving the patient's uterus and reproductive function. This will allow the woman to become a mother again in the future, the doctors said.
A premature baby boy weighing 2.2 kg was born. The infant was under the supervision of specialists in the neonatal intensive care unit. Thanks to timely medical care, his condition stabilized, the ministry reported.
Currently, the mother and baby are in good condition and have been discharged home.
