An unscheduled inspection has been launched after an incident at the construction site of Almaty International Airport. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Urban Control Department, the inspection will be initiated due to information about the incident that has been spreading in the media.
"According to preliminary data, on June 11, during construction work, building structures—pipes—fell. The incident was recorded at the construction site located on the airport's territory," the administration said.
The department is currently gathering materials and establishing the circumstances of the incident. This data is necessary for subsequent registration of the inspection with the prosecutor's office.
"As part of the unscheduled inspection, a legal assessment will be given regarding compliance with building code requirements and the organization of work," the administration noted.
If violations are found, appropriate measures will be taken against those responsible under current legislation.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that part of a ventilation pipe collapsed in the domestic departures area of Almaty Airport. Later, the airport press service stated that during the installation of engineering systems, a partial disconnection of the flexible ventilation corrugation occurred, there were no casualties, and the airport was operating normally.
The Urban Control Department promised to provide additional information based on the inspection results. The airport administration confirmed that the incident did not affect flight safety and that the terminal continues to operate normally.
Construction work at Almaty Airport is being carried out as part of the expansion and modernization of the international terminal. The project started in 2025 and is scheduled for completion in 2027. In connection with the incident, safety measures at the construction site have been strengthened.
The city administration stated that additional measures will be taken after the inspection results are made public. The construction company has not yet made an official statement.
