The National Security Committee intercepted a drug smuggling attempt at Almaty airport. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

On May 30 of this year, the NSC, together with the police, customs authorities and the Central Asian Regional Information Coordination Center, stopped an attempt to transport drugs at the airport of Almaty.

"During the inspection of the luggage of a foreign citizen who arrived from one of the countries of Southeast Asia, about 21 kg of the plant substance 'marijuana' was found," the message says.

The prohibited cargo was confiscated and the suspect was detained. Law enforcement agencies have launched a pre-trial investigation into this fact. In accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code, other information is not subject to disclosure, the committee said.
