The Almaty Akimat's promise to replace controversial AI-generated banners featuring famous Kazakh writers with quality posters has not been fulfilled. Two weeks after officials' statements, the editorial board of Kursiv Media decided to personally check whether the situation on Nazarbayev Street had changed. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Recall that initially, a banner with a quote and portrait of Shokan Ualikhanov generated by a neural network appeared. It contained numerous errors in the Kazakh text, and the writer's headdress did not correspond to historical reality.
Later, journalists from the editorial board discovered other generated posters. In them, AI distorted the words of Akhmet Baitursynov, Abai Kunanbaev, and Bauyrzhan Momyshuly. The neural network correctly conveyed only the first parts of their quotes and invented the continuation.
After these incidents, the metropolis's akimat reported that all AI banners on Nazarbayev Street had been removed, and new posters meeting all requirements and standards were being developed. However, as the check showed, the controversial banners were not dismantled.
At the same time, in fairness, some of the illustrations were covered with gray dense fabric.
Recall that the contractor, Astana Stroy Invest Corporation LLP, was responsible for installing the generated banners. The contractor installed them without coordination with the City Construction Department. For the poster with Shokan Ualikhanov, the company received a warning, and after placing subsequent illustrations, it was officially banned from posting any materials without written approval from the department.
