At the US Open tennis tournament in New York, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, despite losing the first set, managed to recover and beat Portugal's Jaime Faria 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday night. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
Last year, Alcaraz only dropped a set in the final of the US Open. When it happened in his second match this year, he tried to look at the positives. After missing four months with a right wrist injury, he thought the extra work might help.
"I wanted to be quick, to be honest. I'm not going to lie," Alcaraz said. "But at the end, I realized that just playing four sets, it was really good for me to test everything physically, to test my body, how I feel, and tomorrow how I'm going to feel after this match."
Alcaraz lost the first set 4-6, but then won eight straight games to take control. He won the second set 6-0 and also played confidently in the third and fourth sets.
Alcaraz is one of the leading players in world tennis, and this victory allowed him to continue his path in the tournament. He will face strong opponents in the next round.
The US Open is one of the four major tennis tournaments of the year, held in Flushing Meadows, New York. Alcaraz won this tournament last year.
