Kazakhstan's top-ranked player Alexander Bublik, who dropped out of the ATP Top 20 earlier this week, will play two matches for Team World at the 2026 Laver Cup tomorrow. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Bublik received a personal invitation from team captain Andre Agassi for the match between Team World and Team Europe in London. Tomorrow Alexander will play two matches. A singles match against Rafael Jodar and a doubles match (with Taylor Fritz) against Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik.
Besides Bublik's two matches, on the first day of the tournament Casper Ruud will face Francesco Cerundolo, and Mensik will play Brandon Nakashima.
The Laver Cup, named after the famous Australian tennis player Rod Laver (who is now 88), is being held for the ninth time. It features six European tennis players and the same number of athletes representing the rest of the world. Three are selected automatically by ATP ranking, and three more are invited by the captain.
Over three days, 12 matches are played (9 singles and 3 doubles). For a win in each match on the first day, the team receives 1 point. Each win in the matches on the second day is worth 2 points. On the third day, the value of a victory rises to three points.
The team that reaches 13 points first wins. If the score is 12:12, an additional doubles match determines the winner.
All matches are played in three sets, with the third set in a tie-break format up to 10 points.
No ATP ranking points are awarded for the tournament, which has every right to be called an exhibition. At the same time, all tennis players receive personal payments. And each member of the winning team additionally adds $250,000 to their bank account.
Since its founding, the tournament has been held in Prague (2017), Chicago (2018), Geneva (2019), Boston (2021), London (2022), Vancouver (2023), Berlin (2024) and San Francisco (2025). Team Europe has five victories so far, while Team World has won three times.
