A man suspected of fraud has been extradited from the Russian Federation to Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the investigation, in February 2019, the suspect, under the pretext of helping to conclude a contract for the extraction of gold-bearing ore at a deposit in the Akmola region, fraudulently obtained $500,000 from three citizens.
Additionally, in 2021, he persuaded two entrepreneurs to give him 93.4 million tenge, promising to help conclude a contract with KazAvtoZhol JSC for road construction works.
After committing the criminal offense, the suspect fled abroad. Consequently, an international search was initiated.
In September of last year, he was detained in Moscow and extradited to Kazakhstan at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Currently, the suspect is held in a detention center. The charges against him carry a penalty of 5 to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
He may also be deprived of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities.
