The trial of former 2UE and 2GB radio broadcaster Alan Jones continued for a second day at Sydney's Downing Centre local court. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing The Guardian.
The 85-year-old Jones faces 22 charges of indecent assault and sexual touching, to which he has pleaded not guilty. The trial is expected to run for four months and hear from 76 witnesses.
Day one recap
On the first day of the trial, the court heard evidence from complainant J regarding nine alleged incidents. J is the first of six complainants expected to give evidence. He will continue his testimony via video link.
J first met Jones when he was 14 years old and a star school athlete. Jones "praised" him for his sporting ability. J alleged that Jones made weekly deposits of $400 into his bank account and told him it was a gift and he didn't have to tell anyone.
Canberra incident
J alleged he was asked to drive Jones to a function in Canberra. While alone in a hotel room, Jones allegedly kissed him in a "smothering" way. After the incident, Jones told him he had "been a really good boy" and increased his weekly stipend.
J told the court he didn't tell his coach about the incident because he "felt I'd lose everything". He said he came from a small family and was "getting everything handed" to him, and it was a "wonderful life".
Another incident
J alleged that another indecent assault occurred while he was driving Jones to his Fitzroy Falls farm. Jones grabbed his penis over his pants and then under his underpants.
Defence position
Jones's defence barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC argued on Monday that the alleged victims may have been encouraged to complain by media rivals, questioning their reliability and credibility. Jones denies all wrongdoing, saying the allegations are baseless or distorted.
