The government has allocated 3 billion tenge from its reserve for the implementation of a project to build a protective dam on the shore of Lake Alakol in the Zhetysu region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The allocated funds will be used to build a 6 km long protective dam, of which 2.5 km will be in the village of Koktuma and 3.5 km in the village of Akshi. Previously, in 2025, on a 1.7 km section, strengthening, excavation, concreting, and installation of gabion structures were completed. Overall, about 25% of the construction and installation work has been completed.
According to the government, the implementation of the project will prevent further erosion of the Alakol coast and preserve the natural system of sediment transport and redistribution in the lake. The formation of protective infrastructure will contribute to the development of the region's tourism potential and create conditions for vacationers and local residents.
In total, over the past two years, protective dams and structures with a total length of 243 km have been built and strengthened in six regions: Akmola, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Kostanay, North Kazakhstan, and Pavlodar.
