Russian theater and film actor, artistic director of St. Petersburg's 'Osobnyak' theater Dmitry Podnozov has died at the age of 65. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The theater, of which he was a co-founder, announced the actor's death on July 21. Dmitry Podnozov was known not only as a theater figure but also as a film and television actor. Over his career, he appeared in dozens of projects, including popular TV series 'Secrets of the Investigation', 'Major', 'Pregnancy Test', and others.
In an official statement, the theater said Podnozov passed away the day before.
"Yesterday, Dmitry Podnozov passed away. Our friend, mentor, colleague, our family. The artistic director of the theater. We all know he was an outstanding artist. But he was also a truly great person. A person you could always ask for help, someone to lean on. A person who led the theater and all of us until the very end. In the last six months, Dmitry fought cancer. It was a very difficult path, but he held on and remained strong until the very end. Eternal memory," the statement from the 'Osobnyak' theater reads.
According to Russian media, at the end of 2025, the actor was diagnosed with lung cancer with metastases to the brain. In June 2026, his condition sharply deteriorated, after which he was hospitalized in intensive care.
Dmitry Podnozov was born in 1961. He began his theater career in the 1980s and later became one of the founders of the 'Osobnyak' theater. His creative journey includes numerous theater productions and film roles. His death is a great loss for Russian culture.
