Serbian airline Air Serbia is considering launching flights to Kazakhstan. However, there are no specific dates for entering the market yet — the destination is included in the carrier's long-term development strategy for the next 5–10 years. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
This was announced by the company's CEO Jiri Marek at the Slovenian Aviation and Tourism Summit.
According to him, along with Kazakhstan, Air Serbia's plans also include Uzbekistan. The main obstacle to opening such routes remains their length.
"The problem with these destinations is that due to the flight duration, the aircraft is occupied for a very long time. In fact, when operating such flights, the aircraft is out of service for an entire day," Marek explained.
The head of the airline noted that the carrier is currently focused on developing shorter routes, where one aircraft can perform two to three flights per day. This approach allows for more efficient use of the fleet and faster revenue growth.
"These destinations will definitely appear over time, but at this stage I cannot say exactly when that will happen," he added.
Air Serbia is considered the successor of Serbia's first national company — Aeroput, founded in Belgrade in 1927. The airline operates flights to more than 70 regular, seasonal, and charter destinations across Europe, the Mediterranean, Asia, North America, and Africa, both passenger and cargo.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Air Astana is restoring regular air service with Dubai. Meanwhile, low-cost carrier FlyArystan operated its first direct flight on the Aktau-Batumi route.
