Kazakhstan's Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balaeva has announced her consent to posthumous organ donation. She wrote about this on Facebook. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Her decision was influenced by the documentary "4739" by the Khabar agency, which focuses on the issue of organ transplantation in Kazakhstan.
"Speaking personally about myself, if one day my loved ones face such a choice, I would like them to understand how important it is to give a chance to those who desperately want to live. I responsibly declare that I consent to posthumous donation. Because one person's decision can give another the opportunity to continue living against all odds. That is why it is necessary to discuss this topic not through the prism of fear, but with understanding, responsibility and deep respect for human life," Balaeva wrote.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, today 4,739 people in our country are awaiting transplantation. Behind this number are 4,739 hopes, loving hearts and forward-looking gazes. Among them are 125 children. About 90% of transplant operations in our country are performed thanks to living related donors. Meanwhile, the share of posthumous donation does not reach even 10%.
Balaeva's statement has sparked widespread public discussion and drawn attention to the issue of donation. The minister, with her decision, called on others to follow her example.
