The court of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) has overturned a previous ruling ordering Gazprom to pay $1.4 billion to Naftogaz. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

"The court concluded that the Constitutional Law on the AIFC does not authorize the court to enforce foreign arbitration awards that do not fall under the jurisdictional grounds provided for in Article 13," the court's explanation stated.

In June 2025, a Swiss arbitration within the International Chamber of Commerce system issued a ruling on the dispute between Gazprom and Naftogaz. In May, the AIFC court adopted a resolution recognizing and enforcing that ruling.

Later, the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan announced that the said ruling would not be enforced on the republic's territory. The ministry explained this by the fact that Kazakhstan's legislation does not provide mechanisms for considering disputes not falling under the country's jurisdiction and enforcing decisions made on them.
