Social media is buzzing as bloggers are mass-buying unusual curved drinking straws. These 'anatomical' straws are claimed to help prevent the formation of wrinkles around the mouth. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The main difference of the new straw is its unusual shape. The drinking hole is not at the very end, but on the top side. This means the user does not need to pucker and compress their lips as much as with a regular straw.

According to sellers, when a person drinks from a regular vertical straw, they have to compress their lips tightly, which tenses the orbicularis oris muscle. If done constantly over many years, fine vertical lines may form on the skin.

However, experts caution against expecting miracles. To date, there are no high-quality scientific studies proving that anatomical straws actually prevent wrinkles. According to dermatologists, if a person rarely uses a straw, switching to a special model makes little sense.

Doctors agree that a single straw is not enough to cause wrinkles. A whole range of factors influences the formation of lines around the mouth:

  • 01Genetics
  • 02Sun exposure
  • 03Smoking
  • 04General skincare

They note that using an anatomical straw is not harmful. If it is more comfortable for a person, they can try it. But expecting it to replace skincare or cosmetic procedures is not realistic. There is no evidence of its effectiveness yet.

Opinions among users are divided. Some buyers are delighted, noting that drinking from such a straw is indeed more comfortable and requires much less effort.

Others consider the novelty another marketing gimmick and joke that it is easier to drink straight from the glass.

'By the way, the straw is the only cause of wrinkles'

'Wrinkles are a sign of a good and fulfilling life,' users write.
