Kazakhstan may impose fines for using profanity not only in public places but also on the internet. Relevant legislative changes are currently being developed. This was announced by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov in response to a parliamentary inquiry. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Currently, for profanity in public places, a fine of 86,500 tenge or administrative arrest of up to 15 days is provided. According to Bektenov, a draft law has been developed to amend the Code of Administrative Offenses regarding online platforms and mass media. It provides for the introduction of administrative liability for profanity on online platforms.
Olzhas Bektenov noted that an additional clause will be added to Article 434 of the Administrative Code concerning profanity. The bill will be submitted to parliament for consideration this month.
