The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that 20 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to WHO experts, cancer incidence is rising. In 2022, 20 million new cases were recorded globally, and by 2050, this figure could reach 35 million. The most common types of cancer are lung, breast, colorectal, and stomach cancers.

WHO emphasized the importance of preventive measures in the fight against cancer. The organization notes that quitting smoking, healthy eating, physical activity, and vaccination (e.g., against human papillomavirus) can reduce the risk of the disease. Early diagnosis and treatment also improve survival rates.

In Kazakhstan, cancer is also a pressing issue. According to the Ministry of Health, more than 36,000 people are diagnosed with cancer annually. Screening programs are being conducted for early detection.

WHO calls for strengthening international cooperation in the fight against cancer. The organization aims to reduce cancer mortality by 30% by 2030.
