The eight best third-place teams from groups will advance, with ties broken by goal differential and goals scored. Teams with four points (a win, a draw, and a loss) are almost certain to make the round of 32. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sweden, Ecuador and Paraguay have already advanced that way.
Scotland, with three points, hopes for favorable results to reach the knockout stage. In matches Panama vs. England and Croatia vs. Ghana: England and Ghana advance unless they suffer heavy losses; Croatia advances with a win or draw; Panama is already eliminated.
