A court has issued a verdict in the high-profile traffic accident on Al-Farabi Avenue in Almaty that claimed three lives. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The prosecutor requested that the defendant Alexander Pak be found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison. According to the state prosecutor, the driver should serve his sentence in a minimum-security correctional facility.

Alexander Pak was charged under Part 4 of Article 345-1 of the Criminal Code — driving while intoxicated, violating traffic rules, resulting in the negligent death of two or more people. The defendant fully admitted his guilt and stated he would not evade punishment.

The court sentenced Alexander Pak to 10 years in prison. He was also stripped of his driver's license for life. He will serve his sentence in a minimum-security facility. The court also ordered him to pay 10 million tenge in compensation to the father of the deceased Tomiris Kadyrbek, who stated he does not forgive the defendant.

Recall that on March 21, a traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Al-Farabi Avenue and Mendykulov Street, killing three people. The driver of a Zeekr car was driving at high speed in the city center and collided with an oncoming Mercedes. As a result of the crash, the 29-year-old driver of the Mercedes and two passengers aged 20 and 23 died at the scene. The Zeekr driver was taken to the hospital with various injuries.

The incident caused public outcry, leading to an investigation in the Almaty police department and the dismissal of several officials. Following the accident, police units from other regions were deployed to Almaty.

During the trial, relatives of the three deceased stated they had forgiven the defendant. However, the father of Tomiris Kadyrbek said at the final hearings that he does not forgive him. According to him, the forgiveness to Alexander Pak was given by Tomiris's mother, his ex-wife. The father of Tomiris Kadyrbek filed a motion to be recognized as a victim at the final hearings. He explained the late filing due to his unstable moral condition. The man had demanded 100 million tenge in moral compensation from the defendant.
