In the Abai region, a convicted man who was in custody escaped from a temporary detention center. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Police reported that he was recaptured. The convict had been released on parole five years ago. In June of this year, due to repeated violations of the probation terms, the unserved portion of his sentence was replaced with imprisonment.

"During a walk, the convict illegally left the territory of the temporary detention center. However, as a result of urgent search operations, he was detained and returned to the temporary detention center," police said.

An internal investigation has been launched. The convict's sentence will be extended. It is worth noting that according to a bulletin circulated online, the 31-year-old man had previously been convicted under Article 120, Part 1 of the Criminal Code (rape). This crime carries a penalty of five to eight years of imprisonment.
