In a penal facility of the Abai region, a meeting was organized between a convict and his five-year-old daughter. The man had not seen the child for several years but maintained contact and transferred money for her treatment. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The 45-year-old resident of Pavlodar is serving a seven-year sentence for drug possession and distribution. Initially, he was placed in a medium-security facility, but later his conditions were relaxed.

The basis for transfer to a minimum-security facility was compliance with the regime, good behavior, and a responsible attitude to work. After that, the man was helped to get a job at an enterprise engaged in city improvement.

The convict told facility staff that after the verdict, his family broke up. His wife filed for divorce and gave their one-year-old daughter to his mother for upbringing. However, due to health problems, the grandmother could not take care of her granddaughter on her own, and the girl ended up in an orphanage.

The situation became more complicated when the child was diagnosed with a heart defect. After getting a job, the man began sending almost all his earnings to his daughter's treatment.

"It was important for me to take care of her and help despite the distance. Now my daughter is five years old. All these years we kept in touch, often called each other, and counted the days until our meeting together," the convict said.

The long-awaited meeting took place with the assistance of the facility's administration. The man was able to see and hug his daughter, with whom he had previously communicated only remotely.

"And then this day came. After a long separation, I was able to see my daughter, hug her, and be near her. This is a very important moment for me. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet her and hope that in the future I can be close to my daughter and start a new life," he shared.

The acting head of the facility, Rustem Berlibekov, stated that maintaining relations between convicts and their relatives is one of the important areas of the penal system's work.

"In this case, employment allowed the man not only to acquire useful work skills and comply with the established order but also to provide financial assistance to his daughter. We see how significant it was for him to maintain contact with the child and wait for a personal meeting," Berlibekov noted.
