In Kazakhstan, local executive bodies and higher education institutions have allocated over 4,400 educational grants to applicants. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the acceptance of applications for participation in the competition for the award of state educational grants allocated by local executive bodies has begun.
Grants from akimats
Every year, akimats allocate educational grants for targeted training of personnel in demanded and priority areas for the regions. This year, local executive bodies (for bachelor's, master's, and residency programs) allocated 2,392 educational grants.
The largest number of grants was allocated by the akimat of Astana city – 303, Shymkent city – 285, East Kazakhstan region – 270 grants. Next are West Kazakhstan region – 211, Abai and Turkistan regions – 200 grants each, Akmola region – 199, Karaganda region – 198, Atyrau region – 187, Mangystau region – 163 grants. The remaining regions offered about 100 grants each.
Application procedure
To participate in the competition, applicants must submit an application to the admissions committee of the chosen higher education institution. The application must be accompanied by an education document, a UNT certificate, a copy of an identity document, as well as documents confirming the preferential category (if available).
Information about the deadlines for accepting documents can be obtained from local executive bodies and admissions committees of universities. The decision on granting educational grants is made by a special commission established under the relevant akimat.
Document acceptance at higher education institutions will continue until August 25.
Additional university grants
In addition to state educational grants allocated from the republican budget and local executive bodies' funds, Kazakhstan's universities offer applicants educational grants, tuition discounts, and named scholarships.
In 2026, the total number of rector's, university, and internal educational grants offered by universities will exceed 2,000. Each university independently sets the conditions for granting them.
When selecting, the results of the Unified National Testing, academic achievements, possession of the "Altyn belgi" badge, results in olympiads and scientific, creative, and sports competitions, as well as the applicant's social status are taken into account.
