On September 30, many countries around the world celebrate the professional holiday of oral and written translators – International Translation Day. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Without translators, many works of literature and cinema, achievements of science and technology would be inaccessible, and people of different countries would not be able to communicate with each other. Nevertheless, the professional holiday of translators appeared only in 1991. Every year, various press conferences, exhibitions, trainings and seminars are held as part of the celebration of this day.

Also, in many countries of the world, on the initiative of the United Nations, the last day of September marks the International Day of the Deaf. The holiday was introduced in 1951 by the International Federation of the Deaf. In many countries, the formation and development of deaf communities was facilitated by meetings and the unification of efforts of graduates of schools for the deaf.

On this day, the national holiday of the Republic of Botswana — Independence Day — is celebrated. In 1978, by a decision of the 10th session of the UN General Assembly, World Maritime Day was established. The purpose of World Maritime Day is to draw the attention of the international community to the irreparable damage caused to seas and oceans by overfishing, pollution of water bodies and global warming.
