Several holidays are celebrated around the world on November 3. In the US, this day is known as National Sandwich Day. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
National Sandwich Day
Legend has it that the sandwich was invented by the Earl of Sandwich in the 18th century. According to popular lore, the Earl was a gambler and once became so engrossed in a card game that he forgot to eat. Feeling hungry, he ordered his servants to bring beef between two slices of bread so as not to dirty his hands. Seeing this, other players also became interested in the unusual sandwich and placed orders. From that moment, this type of food spread throughout England. The new dish was named after the Earl and spread around the world. Americans even dedicated a separate holiday to the sandwich. By tradition, sandwich-eating contests are held on this day.
Culture Day in Japan
Japanese people celebrate Culture Day today. This holiday coincides with the birthday of Emperor Meiji. "Meiji Day" was established in 1927, but in 1948 it was renamed Culture Day by the "National Holidays Law." On this day, residents and guests of Japan can visit museums and galleries for free, admiring cultural values.
