August 29 is the International Day Against Nuclear Tests. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The date was established by a UN General Assembly resolution on December 2, 2009. The initiative to celebrate was proposed by Kazakhstan. On August 29, 1991, the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site was officially closed.
