October 28 is International Animation Day. Many people do not know that animation appeared 20 years before cinema. On October 28, 1892, artist Émile Reynaud showed Parisian audiences "luminous pantomimes" – moving images on a screen. Later they began to be called cartoons. Now "pictures" are created using computer animation and made in 3-D. But for most, a cartoon remains a small fairy tale familiar from childhood; it is not for nothing that adults still watch them, because it is the simplest way to believe in a miracle.

World Judo Day is also celebrated today. This day coincides with the birthday of the founder of this sport, Jigoro Kano. The holiday was established in 2011 by the International Judo Federation (IJF).

In Russia, the Day of the Army Aviation is a professional holiday for military aviators. This date is associated with the formation of the first aviation squadron in 1948.
