On June 28, Kazakhstan celebrates the Day of Communications and Information Workers. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Initially, this holiday was called Journalism Day and was celebrated in independent Kazakhstan on May 10, because on this day the first Kazakh-language newspaper "Turkistan Ualayaty" began publication. However, May 10 did not become a professional holiday in the history of Kazakh journalism. Later, the journalists' holiday was moved to June 28 to commemorate the day the law of the Kazakh SSR "On Press and Other Mass Media" was adopted. Soon the holiday was renamed the Day of Communications and Information Workers.

On June 24, 2019, by a special decree of the President of Kazakhstan, the government was tasked with establishing a professional holiday for journalists. According to the head of state, this would be a fair decision emphasizing the important role of the media in society.
