A nationwide day of mourning declared by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is being held in connection with the tragic incident in the Mangystau region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Earlier, his decision was announced by the presidential press service.
Presidential order
«By order of the head of state, due to the death of servicemen while performing their official duties in the Mangystau region, a nationwide mourning has been declared in the Republic of Kazakhstan on September 25, 2026», the statement said.
Incident in the Mangystau region
During exercises in the Mangystau region, a sea wave swept away 17 servicemen.
Of them, 12 died and three were rescued.
The search for two more servicemen continues.
Tokayev's instruction
Tokayev instructed the government commission to establish all the circumstances of the incident and take all necessary measures to provide assistance to the families of the deceased.
Bozymbayev instructed to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy in the Caspian Sea.
