On June 25, Slavic peoples around the world celebrate the Day of Friendship and Unity of Slavs. There are about 270 million Slavs worldwide. The holiday is especially widely celebrated in three fraternal countries – Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. The holiday signifies the common roots, culture, and traditions of Slavs. Slavs live in the following states: Russia, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Montenegro, Croatia, Czech Republic. Since ancient times, states and continents have been connected by merchant ships. Over 80 percent of world trade is carried by sea. One and a half million seafarers work in this sector. Although their profession is not military, it is difficult and fraught with danger.

Additionally, today is World Vitiligo Day. Vitiligo is a skin disease characterized by white patches on the skin, hair, and retina due to reduced or absent function of melanocytes. The disease can start at any age, but 70% of cases occur in people under twenty. The cause and mechanism of vitiligo have not yet been determined, so no cure has been found.
