On June 24, Russia celebrates the Day of the Chuvash Republic. The capital of the republic is Cheboksary, where the main national holiday – Republic Day – is celebrated annually on this day, established in 1995 to mark the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Chuvash Autonomous Region. The head of the Chuvash Republic, Nikolai Fedorov, signed the corresponding law on May 4, 2000, recognizing the importance of this holiday in the formation of Chuvash statehood, and approved June 24 as a state holiday. According to tradition, on the eve of the holiday, the festivals of Akatuy and Sabantuy (Sabantoy) are held in Chuvashia, dedicated to the completion of spring field work. This day is a day off in the republic, and various festive events are held. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Slavs celebrate the holiday of Ivan Kupala on June 24. This is primarily a holiday of the summer solstice. Among the participants, a "uryadnik" is usually chosen – a person well-versed in rituals, who handles the preparation and conduct of the holiday. Girls weave wreaths from dawn, collect herbs and flowers, and make waist amulets (wormwood, St. John's wort, nettle) for the participants. Boys pre-cut a birch, willow, or maple tree to a height of one and a half to two human heights. It is installed on a clear plain, on a hill, by a river, or near a lake – at the site of folk festivities. Girls decorate this tree with colorful pieces of fabric and flowers. Such a tree is called "kupala" or "oiran." Under this tree, a doll half the height of a human is placed – an image of Yarila. This doll is woven from straw and twigs, sometimes made of clay, and decorated with wreaths, flowers, and ribbons.
Today is also the Day of Colored Glass. Through colored glass, you can transform the whole world. It doesn't matter what color glass you look through. All the colors of the rainbow give people a great mood, and what you see through colored glass brings great joy. If your heart is left with sadness from past events or homesickness, through the glass you will see sorrow. Colored glass can make the world around us completely different.
