Today, July 23, several important holidays are celebrated around the world. First of all, World Whale and Dolphin Day. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The marine environment is rich in animals, but people show special warmth to whales and intelligent, sometimes unpredictable dolphins. The holiday was established in 1986 when the International Whaling Commission (IWC) imposed a ban on whaling after 200 years of ruthless extermination. The ban means that whaling and trade in whales are not allowed worldwide.

It is worth noting that in some countries, the Day of Protection of Whales and Dolphins is set on a different date. For example, in Australia, this holiday has been celebrated since 2008 on the first Saturday of June, while Americans celebrate it on June 21. Sometimes this day is also called "Day of Protection of Marine Animals."

In the Republic of South Ossetia, today is Media Workers Day. The date was not chosen by chance – on July 23, 1906, the first newspaper in the Ossetian language, "Iron Gazet" ("Ossetian Newspaper"), was published in Vladikavkaz. Today, media workers of the republic truthfully and competently cover socio-political and socio-economic events in the life of the republic. The media play an important role in the system of state and society, largely being a determining factor in shaping public opinion. All media workers of the republic receive congratulations from friends and colleagues on their professional holiday; on this day, ceremonial meetings are held, and outstanding employees are awarded state prizes.

In Egypt, today is Revolution Day of 1952. This public holiday is dedicated to the event known as the July Revolution of 1952 in Egypt. As a result of this revolution, the national liberation movement in the country intensified, which contributed to the formation of Egypt as an independent state.
