Today is the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism. This holiday was established in December 2017. The purpose of the new date is to provide comprehensive support to victims of terrorism and those affected by terrorist acts. Today, terrorism has become a common problem for countries around the world.
Officer's Day in Russia
Russia celebrates Officer's Day. The holiday appeared not long ago. The initiative to establish this date was put forward by the public organization "Russian Officers". Although this day does not have official status, the number of festive events held in garrisons, military units, and Officers' Houses is increasing every year. The officer corps is the face of the state's army, its foundation and support. Not only discipline and order, but also the combat readiness of the army depend on the professionalism, experience, and competent tactics of commanders. This means that peace and tranquility in the country are in the hands of officers.
Ninoy Aquino Day in the Philippines
Also today, the Philippines celebrates Ninoy Aquino Day. The holiday was established in honor of the memory of Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. The political figure died in 1983 at Manila International Airport. In 2004, the day of Aquino's death was declared a national holiday and a day off.
Benigno Simeon "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was a Filipino senator and former governor of Tarlac province. He was one of the opposition leaders against the policies of President and dictator Ferdinand Marcos. After martial law was imposed in the country, Aquino was arrested. After spending some time in prison, he was forced to leave for the United States. When the political situation in the Philippines escalated, Aquino decided to return to the country and meet with Marcos. Sensing a threat to his life, Aquino wore a bulletproof vest before getting off the plane. However, this did not save him: the opposition leader was shot in the head on August 21, 1983. The day of remembrance of Ninoy Aquino, who gave his life for democracy, is celebrated at the state level.
