ASTANA, August 20 – Sputnik. Kazakhstan plans to commission 845 MW of new energy capacity in 2027, the Ministry of Energy reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Specifically, at Zhambyl GRES, 5 gas turbine units with a total capacity of 210 MW are planned; at MAEK LLP, a combined-cycle unit with a capacity of 160 MW; within the first phase of the Baskuat Energoprom LLP project, 5 gas piston units with a total capacity of 34.7 MW; and at Kazakhmys Energy LLP, a combined-cycle unit with a capacity of 70 MW.

Additionally, renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 570 MW are planned. These include:

  • 01a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 MW in Almaty region;
  • 02three solar power plants with a total capacity of 70 MW in Kyzylorda region;
  • 03two wind power plants with a capacity of 100 MW each in Aktobe region;
  • 04a wind power plant with a capacity of 50 MW in Kyzylorda region;
  • 05a wind power plant with a capacity of 50 MW in Turkistan region;
  • 06two wind power plants with a total capacity of 100 MW in Abai region.

"The commissioning of new capacities will allow covering the country's electricity needs in the first quarter of 2027. By the end of 2027, an electricity surplus of approximately 1.3 billion kWh is expected," the statement said.

It is worth noting that in 2026, Kazakhstan plans to commission about 2.6 GW of new energy capacity. Specifically, four gas power plants, expansion of two existing power plants, and 10 new renewable energy facilities are planned.
