In Kazakhstan, the pension amount is calculated individually and depends on work experience, participation in the pension system, income, and the amount of pension savings. Components of pension

Pension provision includes several components. The state basic pension payment depends on the length of participation in the accumulative pension system, the old-age pension payment depends on work experience before January 1, 1998, and average monthly income, while the accumulative payment depends on the amount of pension contributions to the UAPF.

Conditions in 2026

In 2026, old-age pension payments are assigned to men from age 63, and to women from age 61. Special conditions are provided for certain categories of citizens.

The maximum income taken into account when calculating newly assigned old-age pension payments in 2026 is 55 MCI, or 237,875 tenge.

Basic pension amount

The size of the state basic pension payment depends on the length of participation in the pension system. It includes work experience before January 1, 1998, periods of mandatory pension contributions, and other periods provided for by the Social Code.

From January 1, 2026, with a participation period of up to 10 years inclusive or in its absence, the basic pension is 70% of the subsistence minimum. For each full year over 10 years, the payment increases by 2%, but cannot exceed 118% of the subsistence minimum.

In 2026, the minimum basic pension payment is 35,596 tenge, and the maximum is 60,005 tenge.

Periods counted in experience

When calculating the length of service, certain socially significant periods may be taken into account, including military service, childcare, education, and other circumstances.

The main document confirming employment remains the work record book. If necessary records or documents are missing, archival certificates and documents from the place of work may be considered. In some cases, the fact of employment can be established through court.

Appointment procedure

The appointment of the basic pension payment and old-age pension payments is carried out by the Department of the Committee for Regulation and Control in the Sphere of Social Protection of the Population of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan. To apply, you must submit an application through the State Corporation.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that in the first half of 2026, transfers of pension savings from the UAPF to insurance companies increased by 92.9% to 292.8 billion tenge. The main driver was pension annuity contracts, which accounted for 63% of insurance premiums of life insurance companies.
