Hybrid cars remain the golden middle ground between gasoline vehicles and electric cars. The Jalopnik portal compiled a ranking of five models with the best fuel economy according to EPA data, which sold well in the US in the first half of 2026. Four of the spots went to Toyota. First place — Toyota Camry

First place went to the Toyota Camry. In the front-wheel-drive LE version, the sedan consumes 4.6 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle. In the first six months of 2026, 179 thousand hybrid Camrys were sold in the US.

The powertrain is built around a 2.5-liter engine, and total output reaches 225 hp. The all-wheel-drive version has 232 hp, but maximum efficiency remains with the front-wheel-drive car.

Second place — Toyota RAV4

Second place went to the new Toyota RAV4, which became hybrid by default starting from the 2026 model year. The front-wheel-drive version shows 5.5 liters per 100 km, and its powertrain produces 226 hp.

In the first half of the year, 118 thousand hybrid RAV4s were sold in the US. The all-wheel-drive version develops 236 hp, but its consumption is also higher.

Third place — Honda CR-V Hybrid

Third was the Honda CR-V Hybrid with consumption of 5.9 liters per 100 km. The front-wheel-drive version develops 204 hp, and sales of the hybrid model in the first six months amounted to 124 thousand vehicles.

The CR-V remains one of the most popular cars overseas: during this period, the model sold 226.1 thousand units including gasoline versions.

Fourth place — Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

Fourth place went to the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. The most economical front-wheel-drive version shows 6.2 liters per 100 km, and the total output of the powertrain reaches 231 hp.

In the first half of 2026, Hyundai sold 117.6 thousand Tucsons of all versions in the US. The company has already presented the new generation of the model for 2027.

Fifth place — Toyota Sienna

Rounding out the top five is the Toyota Sienna — the only minivan in the ranking. Despite its size and weight, the front-wheel-drive hybrid model consumes 6.5 liters per 100 km.

The Sienna is equipped with a 2.5-liter engine and electric motors with a total output of 245 hp. The cabin can accommodate up to eight people, and in the first six months of 2026 Toyota sold almost 55.3 thousand such minivans in the US.

Conclusions

An interesting picture emerges: the most economical car in the ranking is not a small city hatchback, but a fairly ordinary Camry. Moreover, four of the five spots went to Toyota, and the only minivan in the top five was the Sienna. All of these cars are quite common in Kazakhstan, but mostly in gasoline versions. Hybrids are only just beginning to conquer the domestic market.
