On October 20, several professional and international holidays are celebrated around the world. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Cook's Day
Today, cooks around the world celebrate their professional holiday – Cook's Day. This holiday was established on the initiative of the World Association of Chefs' Societies in 2004. About eight million representatives of the culinary profession in various countries are members of this organization.
Among them are talented individuals. Guinness World Records are proof of that. For example, Singaporean chef Simon Sang made 8,192 strips of thin noodles in 1 minute. Alfonso Salvo from Pennsylvania peeled 22 kilograms of onions in 5 minutes. A team of cooks at a Michigan restaurant prepared the world's largest hamburger weighing 84 kilograms.
Domestic confectioners also amazed the world with their skills. They baked the longest cake, 140 meters long and weighing 144 kilograms. Italian Mirco Della Vecchia created the most prominent sculpture in the form of an ancient castle made of white chocolate. It is difficult to enter, but it weighs 5.37 tons. The world's largest cheesecake was baked by 55 Mexican cooks – the giant's diameter was 2.5 meters, height – 56 centimeters, and weight – 2,133.5 kilograms.
Sweetest Day
Thanks to the efforts of Herbert Kingston, an employee of a Cleveland confectionery factory in Ohio and a famous philanthropist, the third Saturday of October became a sweet holiday. It all started with Herbert's decision to delight orphaned children with sweet gifts and draw public attention to this event. Now Sweetest Day is widely celebrated throughout America, but this day has lost its culinary flavor and is celebrated like Valentine's Day. This holiday does not feature noisy carnivals, street parades or theatrical performances. People express love and attention to each other, say warm words and offer delicious treats as gifts.

On October 20, it is important not to forget International Air Traffic Controller Day, because thanks to this important profession, millions of people around the world fly safely every day. Also today is World Statistics Day — a day that highlights the importance of official statistics in public life.
