International Day of Non-Violence

Today marks the International Day of Non-Violence. This date was chosen in connection with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of India's independence movement and the founder of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. From the age of 24 until his death at 78 at the hands of an assassin, Gandhi devoted his entire life to the struggle against violence.

The International Day of Non-Violence was approved by the UN General Assembly on June 27, 2007. Its main goal, as stated in the General Assembly resolution, is to establish a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence.

Email's birthday

Today also marks the birthday of email. In the 20th century, people eagerly awaited the postman and could not wait for a letter to reach their hands. Now electronic letters have completely replaced paper. On October 2, 1971, R. Tomlinson sent a letter from one computer to another for the first time. Although the computers were in the same room, this shocked the whole world and opened a new channel for information exchange. Tomlinson invented the @ symbol to separate the computer and user names. It was first used on the US military network.
