On August 19, several holidays and historical events are celebrated around the world and in Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
World Photography Day
World Photography Day is a special and cheerful holiday celebrated worldwide. August 19 was not chosen by chance: on this day in 1893, the world first learned about a prototype of a photograph taken using a special technology. This amazing invention belongs to the future great chemist-inventor, talented Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre. It should be noted that the patent for this promising innovation was bought by the French government.
All those who can look at the world and surrounding reality with different eyes celebrate World Photography Day with joy, paying attention to special moments. Those who truly appreciate their work and can enjoy wonderful views share this joy.
National Aviation Day in the USA
Today, the United States celebrates National Aviation Day. The holiday was established in 1939 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in honor of the birthday of inventor, aircraft designer, and pilot, one of the Wright brothers, Orville Wright.
The Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orville, are considered pioneers of aviation; in many countries of the world, they are recognized as having invented and built the world's first aircraft capable of flight. Despite the fact that the Wright brothers built a test aircraft and were not the first to fly it, they were the first to control such a flight in the air. Despite patent wars among other aviators, the Wright brothers undoubtedly contributed to the development of aviation.
In the States, National Aviation Day began to be celebrated during Orville Wright's lifetime (Orville died in 1948). Like other commemorative days in the USA, it is proclaimed annually by the president's address.
Birthday of the Russian Telnyashka
Today is the birthday of the Russian telnyashka (striped sailor shirt). This is an unofficial holiday, but in Russia it is very loved and respected. Especially widely this holiday is celebrated in St. Petersburg, where it has become traditional for former and current sailors, paratroopers who consider themselves real men and defenders of the Fatherland.
Why this holiday is celebrated on August 19 is probably interesting to many. In 1874, Emperor Alexander II signed the highest decree on the introduction of a new uniform for Russian sailors. At the same time, the telnyashka was a mandatory attribute and immediately appealed to servicemen of all ranks. The telnyashka was sewn from wool or cotton fabric with white and blue stripes. Certain requirements were imposed on those who sewed this clothing, for example, its weight had to be approximately 344 grams, and the width of the stripes was strictly regulated.
The telnyashka is a comfortable and functional part of the clothing of sailors and paratroopers, therefore, thanks to these and old traditions, it has not lost its popularity and relevance over the years.
