Today, August 18, several holidays are celebrated in Kazakhstan and around the world. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Holidays in Kazakhstan
**Border Guard Day** — Kazakh border guards celebrate their professional holiday. On August 18, 1992, the President of Kazakhstan signed a decree "On the Creation of Border Troops," but the official date in the calendar of state holidays of Kazakhstan is August 29, 2012.
The need to create Kazakhstan's own border troops arose after the collapse of the USSR in 1991. The new unit was formed on the basis of the Red Banner Eastern Border District, which was considered one of the strongest in the Soviet Union, with headquarters in Almaty.
On the professional holiday, servicemen in this field are congratulated by direct leadership and the country's leadership; in some cities, parades of border units are held.
International Holidays
**Common Language Day** — this holiday has nothing to do with linguistic features. Sometimes we hear from people: "We speak different languages," which means we do not fully understand each other. Today's day calls for finding a common language with people and trying to communicate with each other.
**World Breast Cancer Research Day** — this day is dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer research and finding a cure.
**World Never Give Up Day** — this day encourages moving forward despite difficulties, not giving up on goals, and showing persistence in any situation. August 18 is marked in international calendars as this memorable day.
