Kazakh athlete Fatima Supugaliyeva has become the world champion in judo. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The 16-year-old girl brought Kazakhstan its second gold medal at the World Junior Judo Championships in Ecuador. Competing in the up to 52 kg weight category, Fatima Supugaliyeva defeated a Ukrainian athlete in the final: the main time ended in a draw, and the winner was determined in extra time (golden score).

"At the decisive moment, our compatriot performed a successful technique and won by ippon. Thus, Fatima Supugaliyeva went down in history as the first judoka from Kazakhstan to become world champion among girls," the Ministry of Tourism and Sports said.

Also at these competitions, Inzhu Zhumazhan (-57 kg) won a silver medal, while Yerik Ussenov (-66 kg) and Bekali Yerken (-73 kg) became bronze medalists of the world championship.

The Kazakhstan junior team retained its leadership in the overall medal standings after the second day of competition. The national team has 2 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals.

It is worth noting that 457 young tatami masters from 59 countries are participating in this year's world championship. The world championship will last until August 23.
