On October 16, several international holidays are celebrated around the world. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

International Bread Day

At the initiative of the UN Food and Agriculture Association, October 16 was designated as International Bread Day. The idea, conceived by representatives of the international bakers' association in the 1950s, was approved at a UN meeting in 1979. Thus, bakers' own professional holidays appeared.

On average, a person eats 7 tons of bread and 35,000 rolls in their lifetime. That is why the saying "Bread is the staff of life" is not said in vain. In many countries on this day, people decorate their clothes with colorful flowers and compete in tongue twisters about bread.
