Today, many countries celebrate World Motorcycle Day, with the slogan "Ride to Work on a Motorcycle!". This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
This holiday was first celebrated in 1992. In several countries, people leave their cars in the garage and go to work on motorcycles and scooters. Initially, the holiday was called "Ride to Work on a Motorcycle," later renamed to Motorcycle Day. In the mid-1990s, a census showed that five thousand people participated in the action; in 1997, an official website was opened in honor of the holiday. Until 2000, such actions were held informally, after which a non-profit organization providing technical and legal assistance to motorcyclists in the USA and Europe was established.
In Russia, today is the birthday of the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh). This place is now frequently visited by Moscow residents and guests. Before 1917, a traveling circus was located here, and only in 1939, at the request of collective farmers, the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition began operating. It was solemnly opened and met all the requirements of the time. Various pavilions here operated until 1941, when the Great Patriotic War began.
Also today, the world celebrates the Day of the African Child or International African Child Day. This holiday was established on the initiative of the Organization of African Unity. It was first celebrated in 1991, with the main goal of drawing the attention of the world community to the situation of African children.
