Today, July 12, several holidays are celebrated around the world. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Professional Holidays
Today is a professional holiday – World Civil Aviation Flight Attendant Day. The profession of steward or stewardess is over eighty years old. According to some sources, in 1928 in Germany, a person responsible for passenger safety and service was first assigned on an airplane. Initially, the duties of a flight attendant were performed by men – waiters from expensive restaurants. In 1930, the United States decided to recruit attractive women for in-flight work. Moreover, women were lighter in weight, which was very important for the aircraft of that time.
Also today is World Photographer Day. This date is associated with the name of French artist Louis Daguerre. In 1839, he demonstrated a new method of photography at the Academy of Artists in Paris. Therefore, this day is celebrated as a professional holiday for photographers. The term "photography" also appeared in 1839, simultaneously used by two astronomers – Englishman John Herschel and German Johann von Mädler. Historically, Queen Victoria of Great Britain and her husband Prince Albert were great enthusiasts of photography. On this day, professional photographers and amateurs participate in various master classes and open lessons, share experiences and advice. Additionally, they visit exhibitions and have the opportunity to test new models of cameras and lighting equipment.
