Holidays
Junk Food Day
Some people celebrate August 11 as "Junk Food Day." However, this holiday is not yet officially recognized. This unusual celebration is especially popular in the United States. On this day, fast food restaurant owners try to surprise guests with new unhealthy dishes. Meanwhile, activists worldwide advise against eating junk food. They believe that "if a person has the desire, any problem can be solved."
Armenia: National Identity Day
In Armenia, this day is called "Navasard." Before the adoption of Christianity, in the ancient Armenian calendar, "Navasard" was celebrated as the New Year holiday. Ancient Armenians used a lunar calendar. The first month of the year was called Navasard. The holiday lasted several days and included sporting events. During these days, rich and poor were equal, and the unity of the Armenian people was strengthened. However, after adopting Christianity and switching to a new calendar, the holiday began to be forgotten. Nevertheless, in recent years, Navasard has been widely celebrated in Armenia. Therefore, in 2009, the country's parliament granted the holiday official status.
