June 11 is marked by several holidays and historical events in the world and Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Holidays

Today is King Kamehameha Day in the Hawaiian Islands. The holiday was established in 1871 by King Kamehameha V in honor of his grandfather, known as Kamehameha I the Great. It was first celebrated in 1872.

Also today, Russia observes Multiple Sclerosis Day. In this disease, the myelin sheath of nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord is damaged. The name "multiple sclerosis" has nothing to do with senile sclerosis: "sclerosis" means "scar," and "multiple" indicates multiplicity. Continuous destruction of nerve fiber structure leads to disability. The first Multiple Sclerosis Day in Russia was celebrated in 2010.
